SUNSET, Davis County — A 19-year-old was shot to death inside the home of a relative Tuesday afternoon.
Detectives are investigating the death of Hunter Woodson as a homicide, said Sunset Police Chief Ken Eborn. A 17-year-old was in custody, and police were interviewing another teen witness Tuesday.
"This was an argument, or a beef, so to speak, between the two," Eborn said, adding he believes the death may be related to a drug deal gone bad.
Police responded to an emergency call in Sunset about 3:15 p.m. to find the victim on the ground and "basically gone at that point," Eborn said. Detectives found the alleged shooter "a short time later" at his home in Layton, Eborn added.
He declined to release the name of the teen, saying officers still were trying to get a hold of family members. He also did not say why his department believes the death is drug-related.
"It's sad," Eborn said. "It’s unfortunate that they felt like this was the only way to settle whatever score they had."
Davina Spencer, who lives in Sunset, said her 12-year-old boy told her Tuesday that he had hung out with Woodson three days earlier.
"I don't understand why somebody would kill somebody else," Spencer said, saying she'd never known of a homicide in the town. "It's something that shouldn't happen at all."
