HOLLADAY — A Millcreek man was charged Tuesday with murdering his elderly parents in their Holladay home.
Robert John Liddiard, 51, is charged in 3rd District Court with two counts of aggravated murder, a first-degree felony, for the Nov. 4 stabbing deaths of Robert Liddiard, 85, and Diane Liddiard, 78, at their home, 4690 S. Kelly Circle (2750 East).
Unified police officers were called to the couple's home about 5:30 p.m. that day to conduct a welfare check. Their daughter was unable to reach them on their cellphones so she called their home phone.
The younger Robert Liddiard answered the phone "and made a statement that he had killed their parents," the charges state.
When police arrived, they found the bodies of Robert and Diane Liddiard in a bedroom. "Officers also found three bloody knives in the bedroom," according to the charging documents.
Robert Liddiard was found at the house of an acquaintance and taken into custody. "Reddish/brownish" stains were found on his clothing, in his car and on his cellphone, the charges state.

Unified police arrested a suspect in connection with the suspicious deaths of an older couple found inside their home in Holladay on Saturday evening.The court documents do not offer any type of motive or what may have prompted the attack. But following the arrest, Unified police issued a message on behalf of the Liddiard family stating: "The family would like to note that Robert Liddiard (suspect) has been battling serious mental health issues for quite some time."
Liddiard remained in the Salt Lake County Jail Tuesday where he is being held without bail.
