SALT LAKE CITY — The U.S. attorney in Utah appears to be keeping his job.
John Huber was among President Donald Trump's first wave of U.S. attorney nominees Monday.
Huber submitted his resignation in March after the Trump administration abruptly called on the top federal prosecutors in 46 jurisdictions to step down. Attorney General Jeff Sessions then appointed Huber as interim U.S. attorney for up to 120 days under the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.
A White House press release said the nominees share the president's vision for "making America safe again."
Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, who backed Huber when he became U.S. attorney under the Obama administration in 2015, said he was pleased to learn Trump decided to reappoint him. He said Huber has distinguished himself the past two years.
"He has been involved in the highest profile cases and coordinated task forces on everything from counterterrorism to violent crime. He has been recognized at the highest levels in the Department of Justice for his performance," Hatch said in a statement.
Huber's nomination now goes to the Senate for confirmation.
