SALT LAKE CITY — A 17-year-old boy was arrested Saturday in connection with a fatal shooting now believed to be a drug deal gone wrong.
A statement released by the Unified Police Department Saturday evening said the 17-year-old, who was not named, was booked into the Salt Lake County jail for investigation of homicide and aggravated robbery charges.
The shooting happened Thursday at around 11 p.m. in front of a house at 3231 S. 8820 West in Magna. Unified police Sgt. Shane Manwaring said a group of people were having a party when a sedan drove up in front of the house. Two men inside the vehicle began talking to Tristen Mogadam, 18, and then fired several shots.
Manwaring said Mogadam was able to make it back inside the house before he collapsed and lost consciousness. He later died at an area hospital.
The Unified police statement said while detectives believe the 17-year-old is the one who pulled the trigger, they are "still looking for accomplices who were present."
The statement also said police believe the shooting resulted from "a gang related drug deal gone wrong."
