WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama designated Bears Ears as a national monument and while that in itself created wide-ranging reactions from politicians to conservation activists, an online gaffe from the White House garnered a reaction as well.
The official White House account tweeted an image with the caption: “Bears Ears and Gold Butte National Monuments protect over 1 million acres of sacred sites, spectacular scenery, and important natural and cultural resources in the desert landscapes of southeastern Utah and southern Nevada.”

The problem? The photo wasn’t of either monument; rather, a popular site in Arches National Park, which is located about 100 miles northeast of Bears Ears.
And some people noticed.
Area pictured: the Three Gossips, in Arches. Not at all a part of the proposed #BearsEars monument. #utpolhttps://t.co/F6iIKEsegE

How do we know this was an out-of-state designation? This photo is from Arches, not from #BearsEars. #utpolhttps://t.co/f2xrCpX18W

Classic. @WhiteHouse pic is Arches not monuments. Couldn't find a pic of Bears Ears & doesn't even know where it is. #WorstPresidentEverhttps://t.co/odaZQoQP4B

@WhiteHouse@POTUS I may be mistaken, but isn't that Arches National Park in the picture?

@WhiteHouse@POTUS Not trying to tell you how to do your job, but that's Arches National Park. You'd know this, if you ever visited utah.

@WhiteHouse@POTUS you should 100% be sure what you are posting before you post it. This is NOT Bears Ears... it's Arches National Park...
