PROVO — Tragedy struck a member of the BYU football coaching staff Tuesday.

The daughter of Cougar running backs coach Reno Mahe was taken via Life Flight to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City following a severe accident in his Utah County home, according to a post from Mahe's Facebook page.

Elsie Mahe was found hanging by a drawstring on a blinds unit at the family’s home in Utah County on Tuesday. After being administered CPR, the small child was flown to the hospital, according to a GoFundMe account* set up by Jeremy Roberts to accept donations on behalf of the family.

An update on the GoFundMe profile said 3-year-old Elsie is currently being sedated and under observation for the next 24-48 hours.

“My heart is broken for this amazing family,” Roberts wrote. “They are loving and giving. Please contribute what you can. They’ve given so much to our community; this is an opportunity for us to give back.”

Mahe said on Facebook the family is in constant contact with Elsie’s situation, and a public Facebook group was created with updates on the toddler's situation.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Reno and Sunny and the Mahe family,” a BYU football spokesman told KSL. "We are praying for little Elsie to have a full recovery."

Mahe is a former BYU running back and returner, and his wife Sunny, who played volleyball at BYU, writes a weekly column for the Daily Herald in Provo.
