SALT LAKE CITY — Republicans controlling both chambers of the Utah Legislature have picked their leaders for the next two years after meeting behind closed doors Thursday.

Rep. Greg Hughes, R-Draper, was re-elected to serve as speaker of the House, and Wayne Niederhauser, R-Sandy, was re-elected as Senate president.

In other top House positions, Rep. Brad Wilson, R-Kaysville, was chosen as majority leader; Rep. Francis Gibson, R-Mapleton, was re-elected as majority whip; and Rep. John Knotwell, R-Herriman, was chosen as assistant majority whip.

In the Senate, top leaders were all re-elected: Ralph Okerlund, R-Monroe, as majority leader; Stuart Adams, R-Layton, as majority whip; and Peter Knudson, R-Brigham City, as assistant whip.
