Police: 2 dead in Carbon County shooting

HIAWATHA, Carbon County — Two people are dead and at least one person is in custody after a shooting Wednesday in Carbon County, police said.

Police responded to a report of the shooting near Hiawatha at about 6 p.m., according to Carbon County Sheriff's Office officials. Police said two people were killed as a result of the shooting. Their names were not immediately released, pending notification of next of kin.

The deceased victims were a male and female, according to Whitney Waterfall, emergency management specialist for the Carbon County Sheriff's Office.

Police said a person of interest was in custody.
