SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A University of Southern California football player is being investigated on suspicion of sexual assault in Utah.

Police documents released Tuesday show authorities are looking into allegations against linebacker Osa Masina stemming from a July 30 incident.

Police Lt. Dan Bartlett in the Salt Lake City suburb of Cottonwood Heights says no charges have yet been filed.

Los Angeles police say they're investigating separate allegations against Masina there, though they declined to specify the nature of the case.

Defense attorney Greg Skordas says Masina is cooperating with police.

USC says Masina won't travel with the team for the season opener against Alabama due to an unspecified violation of team rules. The school is aware of the investigation.

Masina is a Utah native who was a standout player at Brighton High School. He graduated in 2014.
