HOLLADAY — A man is dead after a party in his Holladay apartment erupted in violence.

Darrin Jackson, 46, was shot and killed early Saturday morning, and his son, Jonathan Jackson, 26, was shot in the arm, police report.

Officers received a call at 2:30 a.m., reporting gunshots at the Hidden Meadows Apartment Complex, 1794 Hidden Meadows Drive, Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell said.

When police arrived, they learned several people were "partying" in Darrin Jackson's home when up to nine other people arrived and entered the apartment, he said.

"There was a confrontation between the two groups, a physical fight broke out and then shots where fired," Bell said.

Some people fled, while others stayed and called 911, the lieutenant said. Darrin Jackson was killed on scene while his son is expected to recover. No one else was injured.

"Right now we don't have any suspects," Bell said. He added that witnesses who were at the party "are being quite uncooperative" with police.

Unified police's gang unit was investigating the scene and identified several partygoers who are documented gang members, Bell said, but police don't know whether the crime was gang-related.

"But I think their mentality is (gang-related)," he said. "That's where the mentality of 'we're not helping the police' is coming from."

Bell urged anybody who may have more information about the incident to call police at 801-743-7000.
