WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — A settlement has been reached in a federal lawsuit in which a Forsyth County woman claimed that an instant noodle soup cup caused second-degree burns on her daughter.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1SM2MUC) attorneys for the woman and the company notified the court system of the settlement on April 19.
Kimberly Buffkin filed a lawsuit in November 2013 against Maruchan Inc. and its parent company, Toyo Suisan Kaisha.
Buffkin says her daughter was about a year old when her father prepared a Maruchan Instant Lunch in May 2011. She says her nephew accidentally tipped over the noodle cup, resulting in its hot contents spilling onto Buffkin's daughter and giving her second-degree burns.
Buffkin says her daughter had to undergo numerous surgeries.
Maruchan attorney Leslie Lasher says the settlement is confidential. Buffkin's attorneys couldn't be reached for comment.
