SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah's Republican governor says he'll back Donald Trump if he's the Republican nominee for president.

Gov. Gary Herbert says he would encourage all members of the party to support the Republican candidate no matter who it is.

Herbert has said in the past that it's refreshing that Trump speaks his mind but would like to hear more specific policies from the candidate.

The party's most recent presidential nominees Mitt Romney and John McCain said earlier this month that Trump is unfit for office and a danger for the nation.

Herbert says it's vital that the nominee for the Supreme Court is a Republican, and would feel more comfortable with Trump controlling that decision than the Democratic candidates.

He says he doesn't trust Hillary Clinton and is not in the habit of backing self-declared socialists like Bernie Sanders.
