LAYTON — Almost six months after the tragic death of her husband and 4-year-old daughter, Alyssa Chambers faithfully writes an inspiring blog about victory.

Ryan and Evelyn Chambers were killed Aug. 23, 2015, when a driver collided with the back of their car on I-15, sending them into the back of a semitruck. Alyssa Chambers and her other daughter, Kaya, were both critically injured during the accident.

The day after the funeral, Alyssa Chambers was lying in bed when she felt she needed to start blogging on the website her husband purchased just weeks before his death. She is passionate about writing and had signed up for a bloggers conference earlier that summer. Ryan Chambers purchased the domain name "After the Victory."

The name of her blog was born when her husband was serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Spain. Alyssa Chambers said he was wondering why good men fall, and he approached his mission president with the query. His mission president responded that people are most vulnerable after they've experienced a victory.

The first post Alyssa Chambers published on her blog was written by her husband regarding his question and was read at his funeral.

Ryan Chambers wrote that the phrase "after the victory" can show "humility, wisdom and motivation to aim past the victories we accomplish in our daily lives, to continue to the next victory."

For Alyssa Chambers, sometimes just making it through the day is a personal victory.

"I have what I call in the morning, it's a 'power hour'," Alyssa Chambers said. "And in the morning, I pray and I read for a little bit and study. ...That kind of helps me have the right mindset for the rest of the day."

The blog is very therapeutic for her, and she writes posts centered around her husband and daughter because of the situation she and her family are in.

"It's kind of just been a way for me to connect with them and to remember the lives that they lived," Alyssa Chambers said.

"After the Victory" includes posts about Alyssa Chambers' personal trials and how she deals with them, as well as what she has learned from the horrific experience she has faced. As a result of her writing, the blogger hopes her words can help others find strength in their trials and courage to live better lives.

"I hope that through my writing other people can realize that it's OK to have hard times too and that it's OK to be sad and sorrowful, but it's also good to press forward and strive to do your best every day, even if it is just making it out of bed and getting dressed in the morning," she said.

Alyssa and 7-year-old Kaya Chambers are physically doing pretty well. Kaya is very positive and optimistic, according to her mom.

"If I'm feeling down and I'm feeling sad, she's usually the one to pick me up and give me a hug and help me feel better," Alyssa Chambers said.
