Alex Cabrero reporting A fire tore through a West Jordan apartment building forcing six families out of their homes.
Investigators say the fire was started by a box of fireworks, but they are unsure how the box ignited.

The original 911 call came in as some kind of a box that exploded on a resident's balcony at the Broadmore Village apartments in West Jordan.
Jared Smith: "Our bedroom is right next to where the flames touched the apartment."
Just a month and a half into living there, Jared and Stacy Smith will now have to find somewhere else to go.
Stacy Smith, Apartment resident: "I grabbed the kids and got out, and the whole... It was engulfed completely."

So engulfed, fire crews from several departments were called to put it out.
Jared Smith, Apartment Resident: "Everyday, we hear the kids out there that live in that apartment playing with fireworks since the 4th."
If the cause is indeed from fireworks, there is certainly a lot of damage. In all, six apartments in the Broadmore Village complex in West Jordan were affected from either fire, smoke, or water.
Jon Bothwell: "They were coming out the windows and the top of the roof and stuff. It was burning down the side of the building."
Crews eventually got the fire out, and kept it from spreading to other apartment buildings. But for the Smith's, it was already too late.
Jared Smith, Apartment Resident: "We got renters insurance, so that'll cover it, but that doesn't bring back memories if anything is burnt. You can't replace that, so it's like... I don't know."
Two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion.
