Brooke Walker Reporting The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department hopes new surveillance video will help catch two people they believe are responsible for a chain of identity thefts.
This month, police believe a man and a woman broke into a Holladay home at 4:00 in the morning. The pair made off with two cars and several credit cards while their victims were still asleep.
"Generally, in a residential burglary, the burglar takes pains to ensure someone is not home. In this situation, that didn't take place. They just went in."
Sgt. Scott Vanwagoner says these suspects weren't shy about taking the information they wanted, and they weren't shy about using it.
Immediately, the two split up and began buying big dollar items, most likely to re-sell for cash.
But within an hour, surveillance video caught one of them in the act. You can see the woman approach the counter of a Salt Lake retail store.
There is some confusion between customer and clerk. Police assume that's because the card declined. But that didn't faze the suspect.
Sgt. Scott Vanwagoner, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Dept.: "She walks out of the retail location and gets in what appears to be the car just stolen from our victim's address."
Police say the duo has done this before.
Sgt. Scott Vanwagoner, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Dept.: "These same individuals are responsible for other forgeries throughout the valleys. Not sure about other burglaries, but dozens of forgeries."

Police did recover both of the stolen cars, but are asking for the public's help to track down the suspects. If you recognize the woman, contact the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department.
