Four days after motorcycles crashed into a Herriman neighborhood, residents are talking about other traffic concerns.
The motorcycles crashed at 5828 Emmeline Drive (14135 South), but just a couple blocks away in the area of Emmeline Drive and Mirabella Drive (5905 West), a car took out a portion of a fence and a tree.
David Merchant saw it happen around 4:30 in the morning on June 12 and took several pictures of the scene.
He says it's the second time in a month that a car has plowed through the park where there's a playground just feet from the fence and a middle school close by as well.
He said the car took out several poles and then swerved and took out a tree. He said, "Someone's gonna get killed. Ten hours before that last car hit that fence, there was a soccer team celebrating the end of their season, giving out gifts and prizes. Ten hours sooner, and it would have taken out 20 to 30 people."
That driver got away. Merchant says people continue to speed down major roads in Herriman, which are also in residential areas. Sheriff's deputies do ticket drivers. Some neighbors think there should be more police, more stop signs or speed bumps.
But the sheriff's office says speed bumps can be a danger to fire trucks, and deputies feel the 11 officers patrolling Herriman are enough.
Police feel this incident and the motorcycle crash are freak accidents that simply happen in a growing suburb, but some residents say speeders are an ongoing problem, and they want change. They're planning to take their concerns to a city council meeting in early July.
