(KSL News) Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff underwent emergency surgery Friday night.

Paul Murphy, a spokesman for the Utah Attorney General's Office, told KSL Newsradio that Shurtleff was in a lot of pain when he was admitted to the hospital Friday morning.

Back in September, Shurtleff broke his leg in several places. Murphy said, "He [Shurtleff] had to have two surgeries to heal the break, and then he had a third surgery just a few of weeks ago because the screws that were holding the plates in his leg together had fallen out."

Murphy says the screws were removed, and doctors hoped that his leg would heal properly.

Shurtleff will remain hospitalized for a few days and will be on antibiotics for at least six weeks, Murphy said.
