A serious accident along I-80 forced the Utah Highway Patrol(UHP)to shut down part of the interstate.

2 accidents cause major delays for morning drivers

The single-car accident happened on I-80 westbound near 7100 West.

The interstate was closed in that area to make room for a medical helicopter to land. UHP reopened the road just before 10 a.m.

And a serious crash on I-215 involving a barbecue is prompting a new warning about road debris.

The barbecue was in the middle of the lane. The driver swerved to miss it. A motorcycle ran into the back of the car and rolled.

Utah Highway Patrol trooper Michael Freeman says the first line of defense is going to be your car. He says, "Just hit it because you are probably safer in your car, and you are not risking hitting anybody else."

The biker is expected to recover. The driver of the car was cited.
