SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Sunstone, the so-called magazine of independent Mormon thought, has a new editor.

The board of the Sunstone Education Foundation says Steven R. Carter will take over as director of publications and editor in August. He replaces Dan Wotherspoon, who is leaving to join the Foundation for Interreligious Diplomacy.

Carter, a former newspaper reporter and author, has been a frequent contributor to the magazine and to the online Sunstone blog.

The foundation board has also named Mary Ellen Robertson as director of outreach and symposia, responsible for the annual Sunstone conferences. She begins the job in June.
