SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Tooele City police say a 9-year-old girl is dead after a four-wheel ATV she was riding with her mother and older sister hit a barbed-wire fence at the end of a residential street.

Officer Tanya Turnbow said Monday that none of the riders were wearing helmets when the crash happened Sunday afternoon.

The girl died on the way to a local hospital. Turnbow said the girl's mother is in stable condition at a Salt Lake City hospital. The girl's older sister was treated and released.

The crash happened near Century Drive and Broadmoor.

Turnbow said Tooele City police are investigating the cause of the crash. The names of the girl and her older sister were not released.
