RENO, Nev. (AP) — About 40 people gathered outside the federal courthouse in Reno to peacefully protest the death of a black Missouri teenager who witnesses say was shot by a white police officer. Many of the Reno protesters carried signs in support of the NAACP. Sen. Harry Reid said in a statement the public deserves full disclosure of the facts surrounding the shooting and events that followed.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada insiders are captivated by the race for lieutenant governor between Republican State Sen. Mark Hutchison and Democratic Assemblywoman Lucy Flores. That's because the battle could be a proxy fight for the 2016 election, when Republicans hope the state's popular GOP governor, Brian Sandoval, challenges Democratic Sen. Harry Reid. The state's lieutenant governor would replace Sandoval. It's unclear whether Sandoval would run in 2016.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) — A South Lake Tahoe man accused of striking his female roommate in the head with a rubber mallet has been arrested for suspicion of attempted murder. South Lake Tahoe police say 47-year-old Steven Post is being held without bail. Police say the woman was flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno where her condition was not known.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The 34-year-old son of a Nevada rancher who hosted armed protesters against federal agents in a cattle-roundup dispute in April is being released from jail in a separate case. A judge granted Cliven Lance Bundy's release about a week after he was arrested on charges of criminal contempt and violating parole. He has been ordered into an intensive drug-treatment program.
