(KSL News) -- A plane went down safely in Box Elder County, but the pilot did not survive.
Two couples were heading back from Nevada when the pilot began having what appears to be a heart attack.
Officials say in talking to witnesses, Jack Francis of Brigham City knew he would not make it to an airport. He was able to land safely on State 30 in the Park Valley area. He hit either a fence or a power pole, damaging the body of the plane.
No cars were hit and the other three people on the plane were not injured.
"His actions really save the lives of the other three people on board. If he hadn't landed the plane on the road, when he did, it could've been a lot worse. He deserves a lot of credit, what he did getting the plane landed when he did."
Franics was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead from the heart attack.
Francis owned a trucking company so he was pretty well known in Brigham City.
