SUMMIT COUNTY — The man killed in an avalanche in Summit County Friday evening has been identified.

Sheriff Dave Edmunds identified the man as Ryan A. Noorda, 39, of Honeyville, Utah.

Friday night at about 6 p.m., the Summit County Sheriff's Office received reports of a man being caught in an avalanche near Gold Hill Road and Mirror Lake Highway. Edmunds said Noorda was snowmobiling with family at the time of the avalanche.

Search and rescue members assisted in transporting Noorda from the scene near Gold Hill Road by Whitney Reservoir. Sgt. Ron Bridge said Saturday that the man's body was off of the mountain around 10 p.m. Friday.

A report on the avalanche on the Utah Avalanche Center website indicated that the slide was triggered by a snowmobiler and that avalanche danger in the area was moderate to considerable. No additional details had been provided on the size of the avalanche as of Saturday evening.
