SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police are looking for a man who they believe robbed a South Salt Lake gas station Tuesday night.

A man wearing a hooded sweatshirt that was pulled up to cover most of his face entered the Sinclair station at 16 W. 3300 South around 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to Sgt. Darin Sweeten of the South Salt Lake Police Department.

The man had what appeared to be a weapon wrapped in a piece of clothing, pointed it at the store clerk and demanded money. She complied, then the man fled west on foot with a small amount of cash, Sweeten said.

Officers responded but did not find any suspects.

They later identified a suspect based on items left at the scene and an eyewitness who claimed to know the robber and saw him fleeing the store, Sweeten said.

Police were looking for Cleo Kyle Cheney, 34. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call South Salt Lake Police Dispatch at 801-840-4000.
