SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz have claimed Malcolm Thomas off waivers as first reported by Yahoo! reporter Adrian Wojnarowski.
The San Antonio Spurs gave Thomas a guaranteed contract for this year, but needed a roster spot after signing former Jazz player Othyus Jeffers to a 10-day contract. The Jazz claimed Thomas's remaining contract for the year to bring the roster to a full 15.
Thomas is a 6-foot-9 power forward who has played this year mostly for the Spurs' D-League affiliate Austin Toros. During his time with the Toros Thomas has averaged 15 points, 9 rebounds and 2.4 blocks. He is in his third year in the NBA playing for the Spurs, Chicago Bulls and Golden State Warriors.
Thomas is a graduate of San Diego State and played multiple games in Utah during his college run. Thomas will not be available or in town against the Wizards Saturday night.
