SALT LAKE CITY — A fugitive who reportedly was accidentally released from University of Utah Hospital earlier this month has been found and returned to jail.
Layton police said a detective received an anonymous tip about Jamie Cleghorn's whereabouts Monday. Officers found her in West Point, concealed beneath a blanket in the backseat of a car driven by her husband, Adam Wheeler.
Cleghorn was wanted on dozens of outstanding warrants from multiple states. She has been booked into the Davis County Jail for more than 30 felonies, including several here in Utah.
Earlier this month, Cleghorn allegedly crashed a truck while leading police from Wyoming on a high-speed chase. She was flown to University Hospital and somehow was released on Aug. 14.
She had been on the run ever since.
Cleghorn was wanted out of several states including Wyoming, Utah and Alabama. She faces charges in four Utah counties, with a combined 38 felonies and five misdemeanors.
In the past, she has been charged with crimes including bail jumping, identity theft, theft by deception, possession of a controlled substance, and giving pornography to children under 10 years old.
"She was booked into the Davis County Jail on the warrants that she was wanted for. She was a part of several investigations in Layton, as well," said Layton police Sgt. Kyle Schroeder.
Investigators said her husband will likely be charged for obstruction of justice.
