Cleon Wall reporting It could have had a very different ending, but Orem police say a 5-year-old girl is back home safe and sound after she tried to thumb a ride to school and wound up miles away.
Police got several calls saying the same thing. "They reported seeing a 5-year-old girl on the side of the street hitchhiking," explained Lt. Keldon Brown.
Brown says they also received a call from the girl's mother saying her daughter was missing. "Her mother always walks her to the bus stop, and she's always been telling her mother that she wants to walk by herself. And the mother's never agreed to that," he said.
The girl slipped out of the house but missed the bus stop. The little hitchhiker was picked up by one man who dropped her off in south Orem. Another woman took her to Grandview Elementary in Provo.
Lt. Brown says police don't believe there was any foul play but would like to talk to more people to find out exactly what happened.
