SPANISH FORK — Children have a variety of needs whether it is basic such as food and water or a little more complicated like their emotional well being. A group of 2nd graders in Spanish Fork said that they need their mothers.

A few students at Rees Elementary School talked about why their mothers were so important as Mother's Day was arriving.

"I need her smile and her funny faces because they make me laugh," said Tanna Marshall. "Without her hugs and kisses, I would always be sad."

Kaylee Knapton said her needs involve having a full tummy.

"Maybe cook me dinner," Knapton said. "I want waffles, definitely more waffles."

A relationship expert talked about the main things a child needs to thrive.

"The most important thing is to know that they are loved", says Dr. Matt Townsend. "They need to know to know flat out they are special, unique and talented. That there is something about them that this world needs."

Mothers around the world help fill that need for their children.
