(KSL News) A replica of a 64-foot historic weather tower was erected today on top of the Walker Building in downtown Salt Lake City.
The weather beacon used a blue and red electric sign to indicate the weather forecast for the Salt Lake Valley. Blue meant clear skies or fair weather. A flashing blue meant cloudy skies on the horizon. Red corresponded to rain, and flashing red meant snow.
The Walker Center, at 200 S. Main St., was placed on the National Historic Registry. A special-exception request to rebuild the weather tower was approved last fall.
Once the wiring is completed in late January, you'll once again be able to see the weather beacon forecast every night from the top of the building.
