(KSL News) -- To encourage kids to crack open more books, several comic book shops across the country are giving away books for free.
Trissa Provost Teacher, Kid R kids Learning Center: "I think any book with bright, colorful pictures and words that accompany it start emergent readers, which are beginner readers."
It's the fifth consecutive year vendors are joining forces to promote literacy.
Stores have a host of free books, ranging from Donald Duck to the X-Men.
