Andrew Adams reporting It might be a sign of the times with the Iowa caucuses nearing. The Mitt Romney campaign is going negative on another Republican contender.
The ads target Mike Huckabee's record on immigration. "Mike Huckabee supported in-state tuition benefits for illegal immigrants," the ad says.
"It does make sense because it is important for the candidates now to make distinctions between themselves," explained Kelley Patterson, director of the BYU Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy.
Patterson says it's all part of the natural cycle of campaigns.
Romney is now trailing Huckabee in pre-caucus polls.
