SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Kearns Senior Center will be renamed after Ed Mayne, the late Democratic union boss and West Valley City state senator who sought to get the center built.
The Salt Lake County Council voted unanimously for the name change.
But some lawmakers voiced concern about quickly bestowing naming rights without any standard on who deserves recognition.
Republican Councilman David Wilde says he's not going to vote on any naming rights again until an honoree is at least six months dead.
Mayne died Nov. 25 after a battle with lung cancer. Mayne also has a street in Kearns named after him.
