SALT LAKE CITY — Fourteen airmen from the Utah Air National Guard were welcomed home from the Middle East by emotional family members Sunday.

The airmen, of the 130th Engineering Installation Squadron, spent the last six months in Qatar and the Persian Gulf region, where they installed communications equipment.

Their flight landed at the Salt Lake International Airport just after 10 a.m. Sunday, and the squadron walked out of the terminal to handmade "Welcome Home Dad" signs.

"I was really anticipating, really excited, couldn't wait to get home," said Sgt. Russel Fox.

His daughter was just as excited for his return.

"I missed him more than words can say, so it's nice to have him back," said Amy Fox. "He's amazing. He's about the best dad I could know."

One airman said being away for so long made him appreciate what he had waiting for him back at home, and most said they're just looking forward to being with their families.

"I've waited a really long time for him to be home and I'm so relieved that he returned home safely to our family," said one lieutenant's wife Danielle Herrscher.
