NEW HARMONY — A volunteer firefighter was electrocuted Aug. 16 while off-duty, and another man was injured while working together on his regular job.

Kevin Scott Smith was killed when his boom truck came into contact with some power lines wile working on a water pump, according the The Spectrum. Smith was working with two other men. One of them was injured and the other appeared to be unscathed.

The incident also sparked a small brushfire that was quickly put out.

Smith is survived by his wife as well as three children. A viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 21 at the Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 N. 300 West in Cedar City from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Indian Hills Ward LDS Church, 1177 W. Greenslake Drive.

Cedar City Fire Department issued a statement expressing their condolences to the family. They have set up a memorial fund to assist the family at the State Bank of Southern Utah.
