SALT LAKE CITY — As of June 1, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir has a new president, Ronald B. Jarrett. The previous president, Fred Macray "Mac" Christensen has served for the last twelve years.
Jarrett, who sang in the choir from 1999 until 2008, served as Christensen's assistant for three years. He then served a mission with his wife Lucie Ann in Frankfurt Germany since May of 2011. The new President spoke of his appointment.
"I am honored to receive this new assignment and follow Mac Christensen as president of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir," Jarrett said. "I look forward to again working with this world-class organization that changes lives through inspirational music."
Jarrett is a retired teacher turned elementary school principal for 22 years. He has undergraduate and graduate degrees from Brigham Young University and a postgraduate certificate from the University of Utah.
His Presidency workload will almost match that of his administrative days, managing operations, staff, and marketing , as well as administrative tasks like handling the choir and orchestra budgets.
Christensen also spoke of his successor.
"I'm thrilled with the First Presidency's selection of our dear friend Ron Jarrett as the new president of the choir," Christensen said. "Ron will do a magnificent job and will touch many hearts."
