Randall Jeppesen Reporting An American Fork man has been charged with negligent homicide after he ran through a red light with his dump truck, killing a woman.
The 800 North widening project in Orem means there's lots of dump trucks and construction equipment in the area. In September, Miguel Hidalgo was accused of running a red light with his loaded dump truck and smashing into a van, killing 61-year-old Janet Shorten.
"It was just failure to take a proper lookout," Orem Police Lt. Doug Edwards said.
Edwards says the city prosecutors have now charged Hidalgo with negligent homicide. They even feared he would flee because he's somewhat new to the area and doesn't have any ties here. "Mr. Hidalgo was arrested yesterday," Edwards said.
The suspect has since posted bail but could face up to a year in jail if convicted.
