OGDEN — A female bystander suffered an injury to a finger on her left hand after a pair of police officers shot and killed an aggressive pit bull.
The 2 p.m. Saturday incident happened in the 1000 block of Patterson Street, where officers had arrived for a routine, an unrelated, follow-up investigation.
A press release issued by the department says the unleashed animal approached one of the officers in an aggressive manner and later circled two of the officers and even bumped one of them.
Both officers fired on the dog.
A 31-year-old woman standing in the driveway of the home was struck with flying debris or a bullet fragment on the ring finger of her left hand. She was treated at the scene. Police described it as a superficial injury.
The police department said an internal administrative review of the shooting is being conducted and the Weber County Attorney's Office will also investigate because of the injury to the bystander.
