(KSL News) -- A suspicious device found in West Valley City today turned out to be harmless.
Late this morning, a man driving in the area of 3100 South and 5100 West spotted the device in the middle of the road. The man said it appeared suspicious and called police.
When officers arrived they agreed and called in the bomb squad. Bomb technicians then investigated the device, which appeared to be a pipe bomb.
After blowing up the item, the bomb squad determined there was nothing dangerous in it.
As a result of the incident, police temporarily shut down 3100 South between 4800 West to 5400 West. Meanwhile, students in the nearby Valley Crest Elementary School weren't allow to leave the school during the incident.
