SALT LAKE CITY -- A couple of weeks ago, two restaurants at Sandy's Jordan Common's suddenly closed. Employees at the Mayan Adventure and Spaghetti Mama's eventually got their final paychecks, but they all bounced.

When the restaurants closed at the end of October, about 150 employees were affected. Losing their jobs certainly stung, but then losing a paycheck that they earned hurt them again.

"I came down and picked mine up the Saturday after we found out about the closure of the Mayan," said Heather Paul, a former Mayan Adventure employee.

Heather Paul spent close to 9 years working at the Mayan Adventure Restaurant in Sandy. She was laid off in 2008, and then returned last summer. She enjoyed the job and her fellow employees and just the overall uniqueness of the place. Dinner shows featured divers, trapeze acts and fire dancers among other things.

But apparent financial issues forced the restaurant, and the nearby Spaghetti Mama's, to shut down. Final paychecks were distributed five days later, and Heather put hers into her bank account. A few days later she noticed something was wrong.

"So I went online looked up my account and noticed that the check had been retuned.0 Went to the bank, and found out for sure that's what it was," Paul said.

It wasn't a large paycheck, only $141.63. But Heather eventually tracked down the woman in charge of the payroll, and they agreed to meet.

Met up with me at my bank, gave me my new checks and suggested i go in and cash them right away.

So Paul eventually got her money. She was also reimbursed for the return check fee that her bank had charged. Managers of the Mayan told KSL Tuesday that everyone will be paid in full. Employees can ask for new check to be issued if necessary, as Heather Paul did.

KSL has also heard from some of the former entertainers at the restaurant. They're hoping to start a performance group of their own, to perform at other restaurants.
