Marc Giauque ReportingLayton Police are asking for help finding witnesses to a fatal auto pedestrian accident. Some residents are expressing concerns over growth and safety on one of the area's busiest streets.
Fifteen year-old Casey Bigler died earlier this month just off Main Street on Gentile. Police are still trying to determine exactly what happened. Detectives say witnesses are telling them there were two men at the scene, whom they're hoping will now come forward.
It's one of an increasing number of accidents on or near this stretch of Highway 126, which extends well beyond Layton.
"The more traffic we have, of course, the more congestion we're going to have. The more people we have, the more pedestrians we are going to have. Therefore, there's always going to be people that are going to be in a hurry," says Lt. Kevin Allred. "Whether it be the pedestrian or the driver, they just need to slow down."
Allred says pedestrians need to realize that even if they're in a crosswalk, they're not necessarily safe. UDOT says it regularly meets with law enforcement to discuss accident hot-spots and what could possibly be done.
