(KSL News) A robbery turns violent overnight. It began as a beer run and quickly changed into a far more serious crime.
Three men entered a 7-11 at 4000 W. 4700 South in West Valley City in the middle of the night. They stole as much beer as they could carry and started to leave.
The clerk walked to the door to try and catch the license plate. He thought the men had left together.
John Pearce/West Valley City Police Dept.: "He wasn't trying to follow them. He was just trying to look out the window. He didn't realize the third one was still inside. If he would have just let them go."
The third man, still inside, hit the clerk over the head.
The clerk will be okay, but the violence automatically upgraded the crime from a misdemeanor to a second degree felony
Police are looking for three men in a green Dodge Stratus.
