SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Salt Lake City's mayor receives top honors from a gay rights advocate group.
Rocky Anderson was honored by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Utah over the weekend for supporting the state's gay and lesbian community.
He was given a "Champion" award during Winterfest's kickoff ceremony, a week-long festival.
Officials at G-L-B-T Community Center say Anderson is a pillar of strength.
Winterfest will run until next Saturday. The event is hosted by the G-L-B-T Community Center and includes forums, rallies and entertainment.
