HAYWARD, Calif. (AP) -- Mervyns says it will close 20 stores in Washington, Oregon and Utah by next April.
The Hayward-based company announced today it will close 13 low-volume department stores in Washington state, six stores in Oregon and one store in Salt Lake City.
Seventeen of the stores will close in February 2007. Three stores -- in Medford, Oregon, Bellingham, Washington and the Crossroads Plaza location in Salt Lake City -- will close in April of this year.
Officials at Mervyns say the closures will allow the retailer to concentrate its efforts on existing and new store locations in its profitable core markets in the West and Southwest.
