LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON -- Snowbird Ski Resort's plan to put a roller coaster in Little Cottonwood Canyon is drawing harsh criticism.

The Salt Lake County Planning Commission granted preliminary approval to the "mountain coaster" project in January. Snowbird says the coaster will help keep it competitive during the summer season.

Protesters came together Monday afternoon in front of the Salt Lake County Government center to make a stand against final approval of the project. Critics say the attraction does not fit with the canyon's natural beauty.

If the board does not overturn the plan, the issue could go to court.
