Sandra Yi ReportingFirefighters were on the scene of a fire in Washington Terrace, just south of Ogden, this afternoon.

The fire was at the Lake Park Apartments. The complex is located near 4600 South and 300 East. It's just on the corner of Lake Way and Washington Boulevard.

The good news is there are no injuries, but 16 families have been displaced.

It spread quickly and firefighters continue to find smoke and flames in small areas in this apartment building. Firefighters from South Ogden, Riverdale, along with other agencies responded to this fire.

Eight units in the building have been damaged. The fire spread quickly through attics, the floors and the walls. Deputy Chief Alan Mills of the Washington Terrace Fire Department said, "It is an old building, part of its construction, once the fire gets into the walls and attic, it can spread pretty quickly."

Because this is an old building, there were no sprinklers. Police went door to door evacuating residents. The Red Cross is helping the displaced families at a nearby church.

Some of the apartments were not damaged. They are on the southeast side of the building, which means some families were able to return home tonight.

Investigators are still looking for the cause of the fire. They don't believe that it was suspicious. They believe the fire started in a storage area, and possibly near an adjoining apartment.
