KYIV, Ukraine -- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is inviting the public to tour its newly-completed Kyiv, Ukraine temple.

This is the first LDS temple built in Eastern Europe. It is the Church's 134th operating temple worldwide and the 11th in Europe. The temple was announced in 1998 and ground was broken for its construction in 2007.

The two-week public open house begins Saturday and runs through Aug. 21. The temple will be dedicated by Church leaders on Aug. 29. Three dedicatory sessions are planned to accommodate members of the faith in the area.

The temple will serve close to 31,000 members of the faith living in nine European countries, beginning Aug. 30.

As of 2009, the Church had grown to nearly 11,000 members in Ukraine. The faith was first introduced in the country in 1991.
