SALT LAKE CITY -- A man charged in the murder of a Utah girl 12 years ago made his first appearance in court Monday morning.

Matthew John Breck was extradited to Utah from Idaho over the weekend to face charges in the 1998 stabbing death of 10-year-old Anna Palmer.

DNA evidence linked him to the crime in January.

Breck was serving time in Idaho on charges of sodomy and lewdness of a minor child under 16 at the time he was charged in the Utah case.

Palmer was sexually abused and stabbed fatally in the neck on her front porch near 1600 South and 300 East in September 1998.
