SALT LAKE CITY -- Representatives from the Apple Tree campaign met with needy families Wednesday to figure out how to get children the things they need.
The Educators Mutual Apple Tree program collects new school supplies and clothing for more than 50 children living in the Road Home shelter.
This is the sixth year they've collected items.
Officials at the shelter say they recently expanded to meet the unprecedented need for housing, so the need for donations is greater than ever.
"This year we're really excited because they're expanding the program, because there are so many more kids who need our help," said Marilyn Holmquist with Educators Mutual Insurance.
Apple Tree displays paper apple trees in local businesses and retailers listing the needs of each child.
