SALT LAKE CITY -- A few thousand dollars more will save the Sugarhouse Park fireworks show this year. A local resident is gathering donations after the officials said they could no longer afford it.

Scott Workman says for years he and his wife have watched the Fourth of July fireworks show at Sugarhouse Park from their front porch. Then last year, before July 4th, the Park Authority said 2009 would be the last year.

"It was real concerning to us that it might go away. So that's why I've stepped up and am trying to make it happen," Workman says.

He is now in charge of the event and is fundraising fast. He has $40,000 right now and needs about $25,000 to $30,000 more.

Workman says people are even donating $1 or $5 to save the fireworks. If you'd like to contribute to the show, you can call Workman at 801-739-7548.
