CHICAGO (AP) — The New York Yankees have suspended promising prospect Jorge Mateo two weeks for an undisclosed violation of team policy.
The team also announced Wednesday the 21-year-old shortstop will not participate in the All-Star Futures Game in San Diego next week.
A native of the Dominican Republic, Mateo is batting .266 with five homers, 34 RBIs and 26 steals in 76 games for Class A Tampa. In 2015, he led all minor leaguers with 82 steals.
Mateo signed with the Yankees as a free agent in January 2012.
